Our field trip/ GKAITATZI OLYMPIA, PRIMARY SCHOOL OF KARDAMENA, GREECE

As a field trip for our project, we had a unique experience participating in the Nexus monArc program, organized by the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The research team—consisting of professors, students, and staff from the National and Kapodistrian University, as well as collaborating universities from abroad—welcomed our students at the port of Kardamena.

During the activity, the students were briefed on the project’s objectives, introduced to the research team's scientific instruments, and had the opportunity to take part in interactive activities, measurements, and observations regarding the quality of the marine environment. Additionally, they were given a guided tour of the research team's sailing vessel, ELISAVET.

Finally, they observed and studied features of the coastal area, collected and assessed microplastic pollution, and gathered litter from the main beach of Kardamena.

This experience provided a significant opportunity for the students to gain knowledge, raise their awareness on the subject, and discuss potential ways to take action. Upon returning to the classroom, we captured the new vocabulary they had learned by creating a wordcloud.
